Evaluation of the barriers and facilitators influencing access to care for people with Type 1 Diabetes in Lima

Health systems need to adapt to meet the needs of populations, from the most common to the least common conditions. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that begins in childhood or adolescence, but patients face chronic challenges in a very weak healthcare system. We lack information regarding the response of the public health system to people with this condition.
Objective:
To assess the barriers and facilitators that help or hinder access to care for people with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Lima, Peru.
Design:
The study design includes mixed methods to evaluate the healthcare system. The selected methodology follows the principles of the Rapid Assessment Protocol (RAPIA), involving key stakeholders in the system (organizations, opinion leaders, patients/caregivers) and using multiple data sources. Data from each source will be collected and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, as appropriate.
