Capacity building of health workers to improve diabetes care management with focus on nutrition education<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Webdia is an app and web page that helps people living with diabetes who use insulin to perform carbohydrate counting and to adjust insulin treatment. It was developed by the Geneva University Hospitals with other collaborators in response to the need to provide support for the management of the type 1 diabetes.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Aim:<\/h3>\n

Build capacity in health workers to improve diabetes care management with focus on nutrition education.<\/p>\n

Study design:<\/h3>\n

The steps of the current project will be threefold: 1) Adaptation of the app to the Peruvian context:<\/em> we will work with the original developer of WedDia to identify the most common dishes eaten in Peru, and establish the food composition for each ingredient and dish. Then, we will work to make Webdia a user-friendly app and to achieve standards of usability to ensure the future uptake of the app by the Peruvian population with the participation of nutritionists, health workers and patients and caregivers. 2) Training of health workers<\/em>: Training to health workers will be provided to improve their knowledge and skills in diabetes management with a special focus on insulin and carbohydrates counting. This training will include a session about tech literacy to provide health workers the tools to explain the use of WebDia to their patients. 3) Implementation and evaluation of WebDia in the health system:<\/em> Activities will take place to identify some barriers and facilitators, provide support to health workers and improve the implementation strategy and\/or provide additional training in topics that could be needed as well as present approaches and lessons learnt that might be useful for further expansion for the use of this tool in other contexts. Additionally, health outcomes will be measure in a group of 50 patients with poor glycemic control. The measurements will include glycated hemoglobin and quality of life in order to evaluate the improvement of these parameters in the studied population.<\/p>\n
