Household Air Pollution and Health (HAPIN): a multi-country LPG intervention trial<\/h2>\n

In Low and Middle income countries (LMICs), indoor pollution is produced by the use of fossil fuels. Air pollution has been associated with negative outcomes in health such as; respiratory infections in children, and heart attack, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer in adults.<\/p>\n

Aim:<\/h3>\n

This study aims to evaluate the impact of the improvement of changing from fossil fuels to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) functioning kitchens on health of pregnant women, children and adult women in four different countries (India, Guatemala, Peru and Rwanda). Secondary objectives of the project are: 1) by using intention to treat analysis, assess the impact of the intervention on health, 2) assess the exposure to air pollution curves and response in health on four different populations from LMIC, and 3) assess the relationship between biomarkers of exposure to air pollution and health biomarkers.<\/p>\n
