Responsive and accessible sexual and reproductive health services for migrant women and men in Peru

Peru, as other Latin American countries have received a large influx of Venezuelans feeling from the humanitarian crisis in their country. There are currently around 900,000 Venezuelan migrants in Peru and the Peruvian government has issued several decrees to aid Venezuelans, including the provision of public education and health services. Yet, little is known about the way in which adult migrants; especially women are accessing health care.
Aim:
Describe the response of the Peruvian health system to the sexual and reproductive health needs of Venezuelan migrants in Lima before the declaration of the State of Emergency due to COVID-19, in order to propose suggestions to improve these services.
Study design:
Our study will collect primary data through individual interviews with migrant women, their partners (where appropriate), healthcare providers and relevant stakeholders. Secondary data analysis will include policy documents to understand the existing provisions for sexual and reproductive health for migrant women.
Result:
Data collection began in February 2021.
