IMPACT Dementia – Health Systems Innovations using Mhealth in People with dementiA and Co-morbidiTies

Dementia is a syndrome, not a disease, caused by a multitude of physical factors – such as degenerative disorders and other pathologies – as well as social factors. In addition, it is strongly associated with multi-morbilities, since people with dementia have twice as many chronic conditions (hypertension, diabetes, depression, among others) than people of the same age. Finally, the economic-social burden associated with this condition in general, which impacts the caregiver, must not be lost sight of. In this sense, the approach to dementia requires complex interventions for the dyads [Person With Dementia / Caregiver], which are not only based on pharmacological solutions, but on comprehensive solutions that address the different aspects of the problem.
Aim:
To use dementia as a tracer condition to strengthen health systems in Latin America through sustainable, integrated, person-centred, community-delivered, technology-enabled innovation.
Study design:
Throughout the 5 interconnected work packages supported by technology: i) Health systems readiness; ii) Diagnostics, through the development of an application; iii) Intervention; iv) Health Economics; and v) Project Management, Communication & Outreach, the project will aim to collect evidence that provides policy guidelines to improve the way of approaching the problems generated by this condition.
Result:
The project is currently being executed.
